What are TasteVue points actually worth?

With most rewards apps, it's hard to tell what your points are really worth. Ours is simple: 1,000 TasteVue points is about S$1.

New to TasteVue? It's a free Singapore food rewards app. Find where to eat, collect stamps at partner restaurants, and earn points you can swap for vouchers.

All your points sit in one balance, however you earned them, and you spend them on e-vouchers from brands like FairPrice, Grab and Shopee.

What your points can buy

The bigger the voucher, the better the deal. From S$20 up, it's 1,000 points for every S$1. Smaller vouchers cost a little more per dollar.

What you can earn

The "worth about" figures use 1,000 points to S$1, the rate you get on vouchers of S$20 and up.

At partner restaurants you earn points on the bill itself: 10 points per S$1 as a new member, rising to 50 at the top foodie level, and double in your birthday month.

You redeem one whole voucher at a time, so it pays to save up. One full community card covers a S$2 voucher. Add three full diary posts and you have 6,200 points, enough for a S$5 Grab voucher. Keep going to 10,000 and that's a S$10 Grab voucher.

Where you can spend them

Groceries, rides, coffee, movies and more. You're not stuck with credits for one restaurant or one mall. Here are some of the brands in the catalogue.

How foodie levels fit in

Your foodie level goes up with the points you earn at partner restaurants: Disciple at 2,500, Scholar at 10,000, Master at 30,000 and Grandmaster at 100,000.

A higher level earns you more points per S$1 at partners. It doesn't change what your points can buy, and redeeming a voucher doesn't lower your level.

Points and stamps are different

One meal at a partner restaurant gets you two things.

  • Points go into your balance and turn into vouchers. You earn them all over the app.
  • A stamp goes on that restaurant's card and unlocks its own rewards. Stamps reward going back.

At Tandoori Culture, Peacock North Indian Cuisine and Benaras, you get a 25% welcome discount when you join, to use within 30 days. After that, every stamp unlocks a discount for your next visit: 15% for stamps 1 to 5, 20% for stamps 6 to 9, and 25% for stamp 10. T&Cs apply.

Here's how stamp cards work if you're new to them.

How to judge any rewards app

Three questions work for any rewards programme, including ours.

  1. What's one point worth in dollars? If nobody can tell you in one sentence, be careful.
  2. What can you spend it on? Points that only work at the shop that gave them to you are really just a discount there.
  3. What does it take to earn something useful? Count the visits and receipts, then ask if you'd do them anyway.

Our answers: about S$1 for every 1,000 points. Vouchers for groceries, rides, coffee and more. And one full community card at a place you already go is 5,000 points, most of the way to a S$5 voucher.

Pick a voucher to save for

The cheapest voucher is 3,000 points, but the best value starts at S$20. Open Rewards in the app, pick the voucher you want and tap Track my progress. It stays on your home screen, so you can see how close you are.
