5 new food finds in Singapore

Every week we round up a few new spots and deals around Singapore that caught our eye.

This time: a Tokyo cheesecake brand's first pop-up in Southeast Asia, CHAGEE's new gelato, a free coffee festival at Marina Bay, $3.40 coffee in Bedok and a Jurong hawker stall cooking dishes from 7 countries.

1. Mr Cheesecake, ION Orchard

Mr Cheesecake is a Tokyo cheesecake brand started in 2018 by chef Koji Tamura, who has cooked at Michelin-starred Mirazur in France and Restaurant ES in Paris. It now has five stores in Japan and one in Hong Kong, and it's popping up at ION Orchard from 11 November to 30 December, its first time in Southeast Asia.

The cakes are made to be eaten at three temperatures: frozen, like an ice cream cake; fully thawed, smooth like crème brûlée; or half-thawed for a bit of both. The bestseller is the Basque Cheesecake Original ($62), caramelised outside and creamy inside. There's also Cream Brew Coffee ($68), Matcha, made with Yame matcha from Fukuoka ($69), Sakekasu Coconut with lychee ($69) and a Rich Tiramisu ($69) for anyone who'd rather skip the cheese.

These are whole cakes, sold while stocks last, so go early.

2. CHAGEE Geelato

CHAGEE, the tea chain behind BO.YA Jasmine, has started selling gelato. The Geelato range has 8 flavours, including BO.YA Jasmine (the signature tea as a scoop), Signature Matcha, Pistachio, Yunnan Pu-er Caramel and two sorbets, Bergamot Pink Guava and Yuzu Jasmine.

A scoop is $6.90, or $7.90 for premium flavours. Toppings such as Biscoff crumble, raisins and dried figs cost $2 more, or you can pick a Signature Pairing from $8.90.

There are two launch promos. Buy any 2 Geelatos and get a free magnet (till 14 November, while stocks last). Or pick up a Voyage Passport and collect all 3 stamps at the Geelato stores for a Geelato Voyage Charm (till 30 November).

Look out for the Japan coffee pavilion (Shinkirou Coffee from Tokyo is bringing fruity single origins), Yorz Coffee, which grows its own beans in Yunnan, and small-batch roaster KenntaRoast. There's also a bean discovery bar, board games, a passport trail and the Singapore Coffee Roasting Team Championship, where teams compete to represent Singapore at the ASEAN Coffee Roasting Championship 2027.
